DirtyCoast is cooler than StL-Style

I hate to say it, but DirtyCoast.com is way cooler than her sista up the riva, StL-Style.com.

I am really loving their Crawfish (known to Me as a crawDAD) ...crawSOMETHING shirt. Its cool, and I want to get it for my dad, so he can again be accidentally cool.

Why!? I hope they really use the "everyone loves a good tshirt" (hello Threadless) to the advantage of St. Louis at large, b/c i think they totally could. Why NOT?! New Orleans makes me jealous.

I love the revolving flash banner thing, (Look at the smorgasboarrd over there on the right) whose image changes faster than I change my mind about whether I like StL or NOLA more, and I love the "Be Hot, Be Local" tagline bigtime. I know of quite a few Stlsters who'd be pretty enthused to banner themselves up, not to mention to be hot and local.

Plus Mr. DirtyCoast gave me a nice list of NOLA blogs to read - that was rather kind of him.

StLStyle, you could be such a force for good, and you already are, a little.
Fry the big (craw)fish, already! I just don't think its possible to start up another tshirt company, create dissent, etc... in a town that needs all the unity it could get.

There are at least 20 local foods/traditions/whatever that, with a good design and a clever little somethin', would look nice on anyone's chest.

Sigh.

Who says STL Style wants to be or should try to be like Dirtycoast? They have their own thing going, and I actually think their stuff is pretty cool. it's easy to be an armchair critic, but the Style guys started something out of pure love for their city.

DetroitLove, i could not agree with you more --- but I´d love it if STL Style (real innovators in a little bit of a status quo'y city...at least until NOW!) really took advantage of their position in the community as a force for awesomeitude and for good...and they do, too...Ive been emailin´em for a bit now...now if only they´d take me up on my offer to help them do it --- for free. How´s that for armchair, eh?

Question...does detroit have a similar tshirt thing going? Seems like you´d know...

what makes you think they need your help or anyone's help. i just went to an event sponsored by stl-style and it looks like they have their shit together. they were doing gangbuster business.

Well, anonymous - I'm not hating, just constructively commenting...have you checked out what is going on at dirty coast? StL Style recently sponsored a music event in St. Louis' Cherokee district to raise money to support/save a local building in disrepair...(is that the event you're talking about? Mullanphy? I wish you'd leave your email/profile so we could talk, ps)it's just this sort of thing I like to see. My favorite founding father, Ben Franklin said, "All mankind is divided into three classes: those that are immovable, those that are movable, and those that move." -- I just like to see a company that has class, namely StL style, keep on movin' and living up to its GREAT potential! I love St. Louis, and it deserves nothing but the better than best. And StL-Style, much as I love them - in my lowly opinion - could to better.

i don't ever post my name on public blogs and i don't plan to start now. just allow me to say that your title "dirtycoast is cooler than stl-style" does not sound constructive at all. i think it's bold of you to compare one company to another when you know nothing about their circumstances. my boyfriend knows some of the stl-style people and i know the two brothers who run it have other fulltime jobs, so its not like they live to compete with outfits like dirty coast. "in my lowly opinion" i think you sound like a know-it-all.

Hey anonymous,
I think the StL could use a little boldness, but I do agree - I do sound a bit like a know it all! Mayebe it is me that lives to compete with outfits like DirtyCoast. I still think DirtyCoast is cooler than StL-Style, though.

Maybe you could check out my other blog (this one is from about a year ago) http://lolololori.blogspot.com, and we could continue our conversation there? I admire your fervor for StL and for the Vines Brothers, and you're right to keep me in check. Best, Lori
